Workplace Health and Safety is one of the very crucial HR related aspects. Because HR plays a significant role to ensure a safe and secure workplace for all employees (Servisource, 2023).  It is mainly considered as a responsibility of HR to develop and implement Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures. Apart from that HR should make sure that all employees in the organization get sufficient H&S training and ensuring the proper compliance with the occupational H&S standards & regulations (courses.lumenlearning.com, n.d.).

Furthermore, HR should provide necessary guidance, leadership as well as direction for the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for all, which would consist of pre-identifying of potential workplace hazards, periodic conducting of risk assessments and developing sustainable action plans to address and mitigate any identified risks (www.linkedin.com, n.d.). HR should ensure that all employees are provided with required personal protective equipment (PPA), safety signs are in place and well maintained and refilled first aid kits are available with easy access (www.linkedin.com, n.d.).

Moreover, in any organization, HR professionals should be able to ensure that their organization is in proper compliance with OSH Act or the Occupational Health and Safety Act and it’s requirements. As well as HR should be responsible for proper education and training of the leadership in organizational health and safety practices (September 2018, n.d.).  HR also should work very closely with relevant health and safety teams to address absence rates of the employees and to promote employee wellbeing (September 2018, n.d.)

Furthermore, it is crucial that HR professionals being thoroughly knowledgeable about health and safety legislations, and also, they should be able to confidently address any concerns related to health and safety in their workplace (September 2018, n.d.). This aspect would not only be helpful to protect the organization from potential legal issues but also definitely contributes to the overall productivity and wellbeing of employees.
